INGLEWOOD, Calif. – November 7, 2016 – Centinela Hospital Medical Center was
honored with an "A" Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group,
an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers
of health benefits. This marks the fifth year in a row that Centinela
Hospital has earned the top “A” rating, making it one of only
72 hospitals across the country to have earned Straight A’s since
the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Scores in 2012.
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group's nine-member Blue
Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 30 measures of publicly
available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing
a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections,
injuries, and medical and medication errors. Thus, letter grades A, B,
C, D and F are assigned to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year.
It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent
and free to the public.
"It is gratifying to have earned straight ‘A’ ratings
for Hospital Safety for the last five years, as we take patient safety
very seriously with a hospital-wide initiative that involves the integration
of our multi-disciplinary healthcare team and other departments within
the hospital to ensure we are earning this grade every day," says
Linda Bradley, CEO of Centinela Hospital Medical Center. “Our doctors,
nurses and staff work hard to earn our patients’ trust and provide
the very best possible care to Inglewood and the wider Los Angeles area
that Centinela Hospital has been serving for more than 90 years.”
“Earning Straight ‘As’ in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety
Grade is a remarkable achievement and testament to a hospital’s
ongoing vigilance and commitment to patient safety,” said Leah Binder,
president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We thank Centinela Hospital
Medical Center for being an example of excellence in preventing harm to
patients, and urge you to continue championing patient safety.”
Centinela Hospital’s dedication to the community it serves is evident
by the $80 million expansion and renovation plans currently in progress.
In May 2016, the Hospital completed a $55 million seismic retrofit project
that included the unveiling of a new hospital front entrance, lobby, Admitting
Department, and waiting area. Additional remodeling and expansion projects
under construction include: Emergency Department, Maternal Services and
Labor & Delivery, Radiology, and Hybrid Cath Lab.
