Even for Southern Californians, the cold (or rain!) can be enough to cause
us to stay indoors and avoid going outside to get our workouts done. Unfortunately
for some, this also means missing multiple workouts and losing track of
our goals. It’s important to ensure health -tops your priority list
and you are making the effort to stay healthy. This means finding specific
workouts that can be done inside during the colder seasons.
Yoga tests the endurance of the body and helps provide a calming, yet still
strenuous workout that is enough to give you exactly what you need. This
is a great way to stay out of the cold and still get the workout done.
Sit-Ups and Push-Ups
The classic way to build muscle using push-ups and sit-ups can be very
beneficial when you don’t want to go outside. Make sure you are
using proper techniques in order to get the most out of the workout. Keep
in mind, you can always add burpees (need to explain what burpees are)
to the workout to help improve endurance and muscle on your body.
Squats are the perfect way to build up the muscles in your legs. Slowly
lowering your body will also help you keep your body controlled and balanced,
working up a good sweat and allowing you to have a bit of cardio involved.
Planking is great for stomach muscles and building your core. Try starting
face down and holding your body up with your forearms. Then you can do
the sides by holding up your body with your right or left forearm, keeping
your body straight.
Put all of these workouts together to ensure the healthiest routine possible
while indoors this winter. You can have the results you want without having
to leave the house. Our goal at Centinela Hospital Medical Center is to
ensure you’re the healthiest you can be. Get 2017 started off right.
